Signing Profile
Your Signing Profile is your personal key management interface in SQRL. It holds your registered public keys, displays your profile address, and enables you to participate in vault signing workflows.
Your Signing Profile is separate from your organisation's vaults. You never need to hold funds in it. Its purpose is to store the public key identifiers that vaults use to identify you as an authorised signer.
#How signing works
When you sign a movement or token deployment, SQRL needs to know which public key belongs to you. Your Signing Profile is where you register that key. You provide only your public key. SQRL never receives, stores, or has access to your private key.
The actual signing happens outside of SQRL, using your own wallet software or hardware signing device. You sign the transaction data externally, then submit the signed result back to SQRL. SQRL verifies the signature against your registered public key and records it.
SQRL stores only your public keys. Your private keys are never submitted to or stored by the platform. If you lose your private key, neither Orobit nor SQRL can recover it. You are solely responsible for the security and backup of your private keys.
#Signing Profile compared with a vault
These are distinct concepts.
Your Signing Profile is personal. It belongs to you. It holds your registered public keys and your profile address. You manage it independently of any workspace or vault.
A vault is organisational. It belongs to a workspace. It is configured with a threshold, for example 2-of-3, and holds references to the public keys of its authorised signers. Vaults hold assets and enforce multi-party signing.
Your Signing Profile's registered keys can be added to one or more vaults. When a vault needs your signature, it looks up the key you registered in your Signing Profile.
Keep the two roles clear. Your Signing Profile identifies you as a signer and never needs to hold funds. A vault holds your organisation's assets and enforces how many signers must approve before value can move.
