Creating a vault
You create a vault through a three-step wizard: Vault Details, Select Keys, and Review & Create. You set the signing threshold and choose the signers during creation.
Required role: Owner, or a role with the Manage Workspace permission.
Required permissions: MANAGE_WORKSPACE
Prerequisites: The users who will be signers on this vault must have registered their public keys in their Signing Profiles. You add signers by selecting their registered keys.
#Step 1: Vault Details
- Navigate to the Vaults page.
- Select Create Vault.
- Enter a name for the vault.
- Set the Script Type. This determines the format of the vault's Bitcoin address. P2WSH is the default and recommended option. Keep the default unless your organisation has a specific requirement.
- Set the threshold. Enter the Required Signatures (M) and the Total Keys (N). For a 2-of-3 vault, set Required Signatures to 2 and Total Keys to 3.
- Select Continue.
The vault takes the network of the current workspace. Confirm you are in a mainnet workspace for live operations. The network indicator in the top bar shows the active network.
#Step 2: Select Keys
- Add the signers' registered keys to the vault, up to the Total Keys (N) you set. Select from the keys that users have registered in their Signing Profiles.
- Select Continue.
#Step 3: Review & Create
- Review the vault configuration: name, script type, threshold, and signers.
- Select Create Vault.
A vault created in a mainnet workspace transacts in real Bitcoin and real tokens. Confirm the active network before you create the vault. Testnet is for supervised training and pre-production testing only.
Signers are set when you create the vault. The current interface does not add or remove signers after creation. Choose the threshold and the full set of signers carefully at this stage. If a signer later needs to change, plan for it as a governance step rather than an in-place edit.
What happens next: The vault is created and appears on the Vaults page. All signers for the vault receive a notification. The vault is ready for use.
A vault's threshold and signer set define its governance. Both are fixed at creation, so the configuration you review on the final step is the one you operate with. Get the M-of-N right before you create.
