Setting up your Signing Profile

Every SQRL user needs a Signing Profile before they can participate in signing workflows. You create it once, protect it with a password, and secure the recovery phrase it generates.

#Creating a new Signing Profile

  1. Navigate to the Signing Profile page from the main navigation.
  2. If you do not yet have a Signing Profile, you see the welcome screen.
  3. Follow the on-screen prompts to set a Signing Profile password.
  4. Store the recovery phrase you are shown in a secure location. You need it to recover your Signing Profile if you lose access.
  5. Confirm the recovery phrase, then select Confirm & Create Profile.
info:

Your recovery phrase is the only way to recover your Signing Profile. Store it offline in a secure location. Do not share it. Do not store it digitally where it could be compromised. Neither Orobit nor SQRL can recover it for you.

#Unlocking and locking your Signing Profile

Your Signing Profile can be locked when not in use. Locking prevents any changes to your keys or profile settings until you unlock it again.

Unlocking

  1. Navigate to the Signing Profile page.
  2. Enter your Signing Profile password.
  3. Select Unlock Profile.

Locking

  1. On the Signing Profile page, select Lock Profile.

Your Signing Profile also locks automatically after a period of inactivity.

#Recovering your Signing Profile

If you lose access to your Signing Profile, you can recover it using your recovery phrase.

  1. Navigate to the Signing Profile page.
  2. Select Can't get in? Recover with phrase.
  3. Enter your recovery phrase.
  4. Follow the prompts to set a new password.
  5. Follow the prompts to restore access to your Signing Profile.
Key takeaway

Your password unlocks day-to-day use. Your recovery phrase is the ultimate key to your Signing Profile. Protect the phrase accordingly: without it, access cannot be restored.

Next, register a key. See Managing your keys.
